SUMMARY:Exhibition Foyer: Anne Brandhøj & Signe Fensholt
DESCRIPTION:Rooting for Everyone\n24 May – 23 June 2024 \nBrandhøj and Fensholt’s joint works combine porcelain and wood in sculptures\, inspired by ordinary objects such as table legs\, balusters\, dishes and stands. They have simplified the forms for plinths\, which are the architectural elements that support the entire structure\, for example in buildings\, or which are used to support sculptures. \nThrough these plinth compositions\, they draw attention to the UN’s global goal no. 5\, which is about care work as the foundation for all other activity. This goal focuses on gender equality as essential for a sustainable world. \n“We want to recognize and value care work\, traditionally seen as women’s work\, and consider it a resource that requires recognition and appreciation” \nThe project explores the unique properties and powers of wood and ceramic materials. Brandhøj and Fensholt have concentrated on letting the materials unfold their potential by experimenting with shapes\, compositions and material dynamics. The process consists of three steps: experiments with form\, compositions and material dynamics; selection and composition of elements for sculptures; and finally the creation of design hybrids – side tables that are both sculptural and functional. \nThis entire creative process has taken place several times at the Danish Art Workshops\, and now we can see the result of the experiments and the broad spectrum and smooth transitions between art\, handicraft and design manifested in the exhibition Rooting for Everyone. \nOpening\, 24 May 2024 at 3pm-5pm in Strandgade 27B in Christianshavn.
