SUMMARY:Exhibition Foyer: Ole Christian van Huizen
DESCRIPTION:Blink and You’ll Miss it\n-Sculptures of almost nothing \n10 January – 9 February 2025 \nThis exhibition is inspired by ordinary items such as a plastic bag or a pair of gloves\, caught in movement\, or by being randomly placed in the rush of everyday life\, revealing a glimpse of sculptural beauty. \nWith the project “Blink and you’ll Miss it – Sculptures of Almost Nothing”\, Ole Christian van Huizen aims to capture the fleeting forms of everyday objects and to transform them into fixed objects. He has thus produced a small series of objects in white and black silk in the sewing studio of the Danish Art Workshops. \nThe objects are constructed to mime a plastic bag\, a takeaway plastic bag\, gloves\, or a simple scarf. These everyday objects are sometimes placed randomly without really looking\, and within a blink of an eye\, they can take a particularly elegant form. Ole turns the everyday objects into sculptures by extending\, oversizing\, doubling\, and sewing them together. \nThe material used for this project is sheer silk organza. The silk is cut with a rolling knife to avoid movement of the fabric while cutting. The challenge with this material is to construct the piece as simplified as possible. Because of its transparency\, any mistake or unnecessary stitching will show. \nThe fleeting form makes the construction challenging. To manipulate the shape of the desired outcome the pattern cutting is done by connecting multiple layers of silk within only a few seams or by moving the seams from where they would normally be. \nThe stay in the sewing workshop has in itself contributed to the creative process. Originally\, the plan was to produce all sculptures in white silk. However\, since the sewing room is also entirely white\, the pieces became almost invisible. Therefore\, Ole decided to use various types of black silk instead. \nEntry is free and opening hours on weekdays are 9am – 5pm. \nExhibition Opening\n10 January 2025 at 3pm – 5 pm. The address is Strandgade 27B\, 1401 Copenhagen City. \nSpecial Event\nOn January 28 Ole Christian van Huizen will present a mini fashion collection at the Danish Art Workshops. In this women`s wear capsule collection he is exploring his own take on pleats and smocked fabric. Since the location is a small showroom\, models will walk in continuously\, and guests may drop in between 17:00 – 18:00 to get a unique close look at the garments.  \n– \nOle Christian van Huizen is a Danish-Dutch fashion designer\, with a Bachelor from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and a Master of Arts from Designskolen Kolding. \nOle has been working under his own name since 2022 and creates clothing that explores visual exaggerations\, transparency\, and innovative constructions and silhouettes. He works primarily in pure silk\, and consistently with the colors black\, white\, and beige.
